A special event took place the other night at the exclusive Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel in London when Ramblers Worldwide Holidays hosted an evening sponsored by the Azores Promotion Board.
Their representative, Rui Amen treated the group to an amazing presentation of the islands where he was born and raised. His passion for this magnificent part of the world came through loud and clear as he described the natural beauty, unique culture and tantalizing cuisine of the Azores.
By the end of his talk we were all dreaming of whale watching, stews cooked underground, volcanic craters and soothing hot springs.
Once our appetites had been whetted by all these promises of an idyllic, unspoiled paradise, our own Steve Lodge, an experienced and enthusiastic leader, took us through the paces of the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays 2-week holiday to the Azores islands.
Describing the itinerary which he leads, Steve highlighted the fine views guaranteed from the São Jorge island’s mountainous spine, followed by the descent into the “fajas”, or coastal farmland that lurks below the island’s rugged cliffs.
For the intrepid, Steve also promised an extra goody for walkers on their day off. He recommended the climb to the crater peak of the Pico Mountain, the highest in Portugal where you can peer into the sultry interior of a volcano that still gently steams to this day. of the and also by the coast, through the island’s unique volcanic vineyards.
From the historical volcanic vineyards, designated a UNESCO heritage site, to the many opportunities for dipping into the ocean or the springs, Steve assured our walkers that they will have a wide-ranging experience in these mid-Atlantic islands.
The Azores evening lived up to the high standards of the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays taster events – an opportunity once again for convivial company, passion for travel and good food to create the unique blend that defines the actual experience of all our holidays.
