The NZ Grand tour offers a wonderful introduction to this spectacular country – and the weather’s always a lot better than being at home in the winter! There’s something for everyone –stunning scenery, varied walking, good food and wine and some unique birds, animals and plants.
Our favourite hikes include the magnificent Hooker Valley up towards the snow and glaciers of Mount Cook, the Moonlight Track through the ‘big country’ behind Queenstown and in the rain forest along the dramatic Piha Beach on the rugged west coast. And there’s always the opportunity for a more challenging walk for those that want one –up Ben Lomond for spectacular views of Lake Wakatipu and through the volcanic cones and lakes of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on the North Island, probably the best one day walk in NZ. We can also fit in a game of golf if you’re suffering withdrawal symptoms – Kelvin Heights in Queenstown offers fabulous views from every tee and green.
Sailing to the South Island, across the Cook Straits and along the Marlborough Sound is something everyone remembers. The South Island has that sense of adventure for which New Zealand is noted – our tour itinerary does not disappoint.
It feels a long way from home but it really is a destination of a life time. Everyone wishes they could stay just that little while longer.
