West Essex goes to West Portugal
In mid-May forty-nine West Essex and three Redbridge members set out on a walking week in the North West corner of Portugal, organised by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. The Costa Verde is a region known for its high hills, verdant countryside, extensive unspoilt beaches and fascinating old towns and villages.
The Other Side of the Algarve
Like most things at Quinta Bonita, the panoramic view from our terrace has the wow factor in abundance. Gazing over the countryside to the distant mountains and shimmering coastline it’s hard to believe that it’s almost November and it’s even harder to believe that this is the Algarve.
Portugal's Emerald Coast
May 15-22th 2010
Surprising. That was the theme of our week on the Portuguese coast, north of Porto.
We were surprised by the lovely coastline with huge sandy beaches and breaking rollers.
Surprised by the hills and valleys, full of wild flowers and grape vines surrounding gardens and small fields of vegetables. And surprised by the low cost of everything in shops and bars (one euro was standard for a beer).
A great hotel, and some good meals at local restaurants. We were pleased we took the local train to visit Viana and the old walled part of Valenca, on the Spanish border.
