The Great Elephant Search

We were an intrepid band of ramblers, led by Julia as we set off on a walk following a dried river bed in the Damara area of Namibia. We reached the start of the walk by taking a coach from our lodge to the point where the river bed met the road.

The Great South Africa Journey

The rhythm of the train is picking up pace and the first rays of the African sun are flickering through chinks in the curtains of this comfortable cabin on the Good Hope Express, the “Shongololo”.  Through the window the new day brings a shining panorama of immaculate dark green citrus groves and plantation crops studded with sky blue flowers on the Jacaranda trees.

Trails of the Old Transvaal

Just returned from our third trip to South Africa in 18 months – a wonderful country of wide open spaces, a great variety of scenery and wildlife, and friendly people. The tour started off well with a friendly face to meet us at the airport – Chris Beattie, now a Ramblers Worldwide Holidays’ leader, whom we had met when he joined our last tour for a few days to get a feel for leading.

Wildlife and Battlefields in South Africa

As the passenger jet touched down in the land of the Zulu people, I wonder if King Shaka stirred in his grave at Dukuza, not far away.

On The Zulu Trail

My wife and I arrived back today from 3 weeks on your KwaZulu Natal – A World Heritage Discovery grade D holiday.  We’ve been on 17 Ramblers holidays over the last 14 years and this, the 18th, was one of the very best.

The Challenging Drakensberg Mountains

This was our first trip with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, so we were not sure what to expect. We both walk regularly, but there are few serious hills in our area so walking in the Drakensberg Mountains was potentially challenging.

The Drakensberg Mountains

I recently returned from two weeks in the Drakensberg Mountains and it was an excellent holiday. Both hotels we stayed in are superb, set about 1,400m above sea level in spectacular mountain scenery.
